Both Ways

Have you every told someone “you can’t have it both ways”?

We often find ourselves feeling this way in public buildings.  Some say it’s too cold while others say it’s too hot.  If you move the thermostat either way you still cannot satisfy everyone.

Sunglasses have stickers that said, “protects against ultraviolet rays”.  They say that we are destroying the ozone and we are all vulnerable because of our environment.

We blame the so-called “easy targets”.  Factories, oil companies, nuclear plants and big business in general.  Other contributors are agriculture and the general public.  The problems are so highly complex we may never figure out all the contributors.

There are solutions.  We could shut down all the factories.  We could stop driving our cars.  We could stop washing our clothes with detergents and eliminate polluting our water supplies.  But wait, “I really like these conveniences!”

Did you know that these issues have been going on for a long time?  Solomon wrote,  “Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.” (Proverbs 14:4)   Interpretation; you can have a clean crib if you don’t have an ox, but if you don’t have an ox you can’t plow.  And if you can’t plow you can’t have crops for food.  You can’t have it both ways.

This is the clear message throughout the Bible.  Jesus said it like this;  “No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other;” (Matthew 6:24).

     See you in church Sunday!
